A good Deed
Unlike the thousand-year-old arms factories, Prokl Nefedov’s workshop cannot boast an ancient tradition or legendary models celebrated in the songs and films of bygone days. Its twenty-four-shot magazine-fed strilets, however, are cheap, reliable, and mean. Only haughty rykars and proud seamen look down on the upstart Nefedov’s plain, somehow underweight, frivolously rapid-firing modern toys. The army and the spirit regiments gladly adopted the innovation. In scarcely ten years, by the beginning of the twentieth century, Nefedov’s Deed had become the North’s most widely used strilet, and would do much good in the coming war with its unlegendary reliability and less-than-millennial simplicity.
