After Mon, Viy brought forth the goddess Iona: orderer, gardener, future mother of the mighty and obedient oratay heroes. With his daughter Viy shared a special gift that lived beneath his heart: an aching sense of beauty. Upon her face, her neck, her breasts, her belly, her serpent’s tail, in her hair and her bird’s wings, he imprinted that inexpressibly alluring, painful feeling which had given him no rest in the dark, untrodden abysses of non-being before creation, and had in part stirred him to his first awakening.
Beautiful Iona flew over the walls of the city of Om. In the damp, dark primal thickets she found solitary primal beasts absorbed in crude thought and, with her unfathomable beauty, seduced them, tamed them, and led them beneath the city walls to dig canals, heave boulders, and wag their dragon tails in the hope of a fond glance from their little goddess.
